roxanna: hi! we're rainy day dreamers. parris: and today we're trying out the love pearl kit. it's an oyster in a can and inside the oyster is supposed to be a pearl. if there isn't roxanna says she'll eat the oyster. roxanna: what? [intro] parris: the love pearl kit goes for less than $10. we ordered ours online, you can probably find it at the airport gift shop in hawaii but if you can't find it locally, we'll put a link down below this video. now, they guarantee there will be a pearl in the oyster that's in the can, and they give you this little necklace that you can-it's very flexible, it opens down, you put your
pearl in it so you can wear your pearl around your neck. you're also supposed to make a wish on this and depending on the color of the pearl that you find inside, that means wealth or luck or love or stuff like that. so this love pearl kit reminds me of something that we've reviewed recently, a kind of soap? roxanna: the heart. parris: yeah, the soap diamond. roxanna: yeah. parris: it's soap that they actually hide a ring in with a jewel on top that could be worth anything from $5 to $500. ours was worth $29 i think, a cubic zirconia. this is similar except
supposedly the pearl in here grew there naturally. i've read online some people say they think they actually opened it up and stick a little plastic ball in before they give it to you. well, let's open it up and let's see what we really get. we were unboxing this thing got quite a start because on the little canister it's got the butterfly. well, it's the open shell shape and everything, i picked it up and i can hear it clanging around then when i look, there it was looking right at me. this is the oyster that you're going to have to crack open and dig out your pearl. here is the necklace that they gave you and this is the pendant portion with this little cage. you pull apart the little wires and push your pearl in there. they're all supposed to be 6.5 to 7.5
millimeters in size. this is a little gift-y type thing that this can sit in once you put the pearl in it if you're giving it as a gift. more than instructions they include a legend that tells you about on these ancient islands where people would risk their lives to dive for these pearls and then give them to the special lover to show their true love, and depending on the color of the pearl, there would be different predictions for their future life together. these are the instructions basically: make a wish then open the sealed pot. so you make a wish before you even open this. number 2: cut open the mussel and take out the pearl. number 3: take out the necklace and put the pearl into it. number 4: put the pearl in it and wear it in bliss.
pulling out this little piece and it says, "do not eat, mollusk is not edible. do no drink, liquid contains 25% alcohol. children should be supervised." so it's alcohol and water that it's stored in as a preservative and i think it's going to smell. you ready for this? i'll hold the thing and you pop it back like a top of soda can, okay? roxanna: okay. parris: okay. now, don't forget you got to make your wish first and don't tell us. make a wish. okay, now blow out the mollusk. get ready for that smell. roxanna: that #[03:25] parris: #[03:26] smell like alcohol i would think rather than old sea water.
roxanna: what do we do now? parris: okay, now we got to peel it back. more stuff on my desk. mollusk juice. don't get your nose in alcohol. roxanna: it smells like chemical-y. parris: yeah, it smells. it smells chemical-y, it doesn't smell rotten or anything. here we are, this feels like a sea shell at the seashore and it's closed very tightly so this is going to take a little doing to pry it open and then we'll-roxanna wants to examine it first for any evidence of tampering to see it they've actually been putting little plastic pieces in it instead of real pearls. okay, we're going to put the mussel over here in this bowl and then roxanna is going to use the
special - on my phone - the special fake mussel indicator app. actually, it's just a phone, we're going to zoom in and take a look at the edges of it. are you ready? roxanna: uh huh. parris: okay, we take a picture, i did. there, that looks a little suspicious, don't you think? roxanna: can i touch it? parris: yep, go ahead and pick it up, turn it around. roxanna: hmm, this might be a little hard considering i don't what a mussel's supposed to look like in the first place. parris: oh, you want to see a mussel? okay, so so far it looks like the real thing, right?
parris: okay, it passes the tampering inspection. so, you made your wish, we're on to the next step: we got to pry it open. i've got an x-acto knife here, that's exactly what i'm going to do. roxanna: i thought you're supposed to use that thingy? parris: i think that's just for digging. this little plastic knife thing, the blade isn't thin enough. you got to get some in between the 2 edges of the blade. you see how it's like sandwiched so close you can't get anything in there? roxanna: bam! see, that's how the reason why you want to be able to tamper with it. parris: bam! okay. roxanna: bam! yeah.
parris: don't be coming at me from near my fingers. roxanna: hold the bowl so i can thrust my hand on it. parris: okay, too close for my comfort. can you just like crack it or cut through it? roxanna: what i was- parris: we don't eat-- other than regular fish, we don't eat a lot of seafood here, so. i never opened one of these before. you know i think if you steam them they open. when you steam it something happens to the mussel on it because inside there's like a muscle, that's what's holding it close. i think if you steam it, that makes the mussel kind of *grunt* and the thing opens up. it's actually very fragile.
roxanna: not your hand, you have to do it carefully. parris: what's fragile in french? roxanna: fra-gi-lay. parris: there we go, it's almost christmas. now we're inside, okay here we go. let me show you how this works, i feel like liquid animal is going to come out on me. let's see, i got the blade in there just before it starts to ooze out right away. slice through here, slicy, slicy. roxanna: be careful, remember how fra-gi-lay it is. parris: yeah, okay. i'm going through the other side now. oh yeah, we got more liquid coming. roxanna: oh my gosh, it's yellow.
parris: okay, i now think if you get a fingernail in there, we can pry this open and see what's inside. you ready? roxanna: yup. parris: i hope the juice that's-because it wanted to come out, it's coming. hear that? parris: hey, something solid in there. okay, get your fingernail in the edge there and give it a go. roxanna: hey, i think it's working. parris: i didn't, i'm afraid to look. roxanna: oh, slightly gross. i mean not too much.
parris: well there is an animal and there's a pearl. there we go, one genuine white pearly- looking thing. let's take it out and see if it really looks like a pearl. looks to me a very white pearl, go ahead and dig in there. roxanna: eww, it's all skinny. ohh. parris: ohh, it's pretty. so you got not a whole lot of meat left to that, pretty eviscerated creature. roxanna: what is that? parris: looks like most of the meaty stuff is all gone somewhere but pearl, i don't know. just a little plastic bead really, looks like a pearl.
roxanna: there's a weird thingy inside. parris: you mean you can see through it? roxanna: yeah, on the outside layers, the shell and it's not completely round. parris: ohh, that's a good sign that imperfection points to it maybe really being a pearl. roxanna: maybe. parris: here, let me roll it on the table and see, it should wobble. roxanna: it is. parris: yeah, i see it's wobbling so it is not perfectly round. roxanna: see, look how good my eyes are.
parris: that's good. now, do you know how pearls are made? roxanna: by sand. eew, i'm touching saliva. parris: basically in case you don't know, i believe this is correct that some sand or some irritant gets inside of the mussel and it can't spit it out and it's like it's irritating it and it can't get out there and scratch it. so instead it secretes this stuff that just sort of gloms into the sand and it makes it smooth so it stops irritating it, and over time it just keeps collecting that stuff and so basically, the pearl is accumulations of that stuff excreted by the mussel. looks pretty though and so the longer that stays in there, the longer the mussel lives, the larger the pearl will become. so i think they picked mussels this particular size to get pearls this particular size.
this is tiny, i'm trying my best to illuminate it for you. okay, there's our pearl, such as it is. if you can see it, it's not perfectly round which makes me think maybe it's a real pearl and here's the necklace, we're going to put the pearl inside of that little cage. so what color would you say this pearl is? roxanna: i think it is white. parris: i agree with you. so what does that mean according to the book of fortune here. roxanna: white equals health. parris: health, so that's a good sign. okay, got it. you pull the chain out and then one part slides this way, the other part slides the other way.
roxanna: no way. parris: yep, yep. way, way. i've got my jeweler's getup on and i'm a jeweler and there's a jewel, 85 karat if it's a day i'd say. parris: i don't think it makes sense. take the hat off i think or is that not allowed? roxanna: no. parris: why are so giant? oh my gosh, everything's giant. stuff, okay. roxanna: *screaming* parris: am i choking you? i think i must be choking you. here's a thought, face away from me. roxanna: yeah. oh, that was hilarious. oh my goodness.
parris: alright, hold on then. let me get the hair out of the way and everything. oh yeah, the neck's much-fits much better without all that hair involved and your chin as well. ximena: i thought so. parris: oh, i can't see. gosh, i don't think we've lost them. okay, you're good. roxanna: yeah? parris: let's see what it looks like, should show up real well on that. pull it down and then the center. that's really tight, i thought it would hang down further. and there's the pearl in the necklace on the neck, isn't that nice? it's actually kind of pretty. you like it?
parris: so, the love pearl for less than $10. what do you think? good deal? parris: it's fun if a little gross to get the pearl out. it's fun that it's a surprise, you don't what color it's going to be, how big it's going to be. so it was kind of good and that's perfectly nice and wearable and there's a story behind it to tell your friends. so yeah, i think the love pearl kit was pretty good. less than $10, i'll put a link down below this video, and you also get to make a wish. we won't know what roxanna's wish is but we're kind of curious if you had one wish on something like this that might really come true, what would you wish for? go ahead and comment with that down below this video. starting with the hashtag, we'll take a look at those viewer's interest and see what our viewers would wish for, and if you'd like to be
