does jewelry cleaner remove tarnish

hi there, i'm justin from jcr solutions, andthis is my friend eva. today we are going to clean some jewellery and use the jcr ionicsystem and you will be able to see just how well it cleans. yes, hi, i reckon, justinwe should try to clean this one first. this is a silver necklace that my mother made ingreece. it has this little pattern on the chain that makes it very hard to clean becauseit has little grooves in the links. so i have cleaned it in the past with toothpaste, toothbrush, and it's taken for ever, and ive never got really, really clean. the last time i didit i used that magic method that you put aluminium foil and bicarbonate and warm water in it,so it looked like it was cleaning for the first 5 mins or so, and then it became black- like this.. so, do you think we can clean

it? i think this one because its bulky anda little bit awkward we will use the ion-stream commercial cleaner because its a bit easierto hook it on. the jcr mini home jewellery cleaner will work just the same but is probablyeasier for you to see it clean. we will have a go.... so we will hook it on as many linksas we can because it does rely on electrical connection to work. and we will need to keepjiggling it around, and as it gets cleaner it will begin to conduct better. then it shouldstart to clean. we dunk it in, the "ok" light has come on at the front of the unit, andnow it will be removing the grease from the surface, and the fingerprints. then when thathas gone hopefully it will start to remove the tarnish. you will probably start to smellthe gas coming off it too. like the smell

of sulphur. that is quite a large surfacearea.. so it will take time, but it will work. it will be faster than the way i was cleaningit, it would take over half an hour with the little brush, and i could never get reallyclean. you can start to see the bubbles, and highlights of clean silver. you can smellthe hydrogen sulphide smell. i will give it a brush with bicarb paste because anythingattached to the surface can be removed. tarnish is a chemical compound attached to the surface, and what we are doing is breaking down the attachment (chemical bonds). what i will do no is brushit. it is much better and brighter! what i will use is a bit of bicarb paste that i havemixed up with a little bit of ion-sol and a little bit of water. it is mixed enoughto form a viscous paste. that will dispatch

anything that is sitting on the surface ofthe silver. if you have an ultrasonic cleaner, it's easy to just drop it in the cleaner instead.we will just go lightly over the whole chain... and again, all of this is completely non-toxic,so you dont need to worry about gloves or handling, or fumes... a lot of the tarnishnow will have been broken down, we have broken down the chemical bonding between the compound(tarnish) and the silver. this is going to come up really nice! not black anymore! itssilver! and there is no loss of metal, the other beauty is that you are not going topolish any high spots, and you are not going to loose any detail. as soon as you polishit you lost that pattern. ...so did you say your mother made this? yes, she made it frombeaten silver. she made every single link?

yes! and there is a little pearl at the end.this is really going to come up very nicely. in the future when you clean it again, itis just going to take about 10 seconds, then you have got rid of all of this heavy lesssoluble tarnish. i will make sure i don't put it back in the aluminium foil bath! that'swhat made it worse! ...so now we will give it a rinse in tap water, this will dispatchall of the grime. that's really looking nice and white! we will do 1 more cleaning cycle, but we will use the jcr mini home jewellery cleaner.. so it is exactly the same, but aportable version? exactly, this is more for professional jewellers, and this is more forhome users. they have the same power, and do exactly the same thing. i will use thisglass here. instead of having two electrodes

(as in the commercial), this unit (jcr mini)is fully built in. the stainless steel electrode is the housing, and the hook is in the middlehere, and it's made of sterling silver. we just hook the whole chain on, and there isno right or wrong way of doing this, but it is better that you get as many loops on thehook as possible. then it makes the best possible electrical contact. something like that...then we just submerse it into the solution. you can then see the blue light come on atthe top. this will just do the final clean. we will do it a couple of times, and thenwe will rinse it and dry it off. hopefully you will start to see all the highlights ofsilver appearing. ...that is looking really clean! yes! then we just rinse it... no toxicchemicals have been used, no animals have

been harmed! excellent! i will pat it drywith this microfiber towel. this is really good to gently rub it dry. that has come upreally well! that is great. hopefully you can see in the camera that this chain is nowgleaming, glistening and shining and sparkling. that's fantastic! thank you so much, i willput it on!
